About the Director

In 1965, a young boy began a lifelong journey as a naturalist. Matt Schoeffler's goal, mission, and dream became understanding his role in nature. He explored swamps and forests nearby his home in suburban New Jersey. With great excitement, he brought his many questions to the renowned nature photographer, Walter Dawn. As an adult, after earning a degree at Rutgers in Chemistry with Biological Applications, he focused on teaching nature.

He has studied nature drawing under Clare Walker Leslie, primitive survival skills and tracking under Tom Brown, Jr. Matt has conducted hundreds of programs with thousands of people. He started out as a Nature Counselor at a camp, has worked at the Massachusetts Audubon Society, Cape Outdoor Discovery, and Dodge Nature Center. In 1994, Matt founded Nature & Nurture. Matt has been interviewed on the radio talk show Adler on Line for his expertise with the Stoneham cobra. He is a contributor to the New England Herpetological Society journal. He has appeared in conjunction with James Earl Jones.

Matt often works with other professionals, whom he has trained and who have first-class credentials in their own right.
